Allergy relief treatment · an add-on to any carpet or upholstery cleaning

Allergy Relief Treatment for Carpet and Upholstery

Carpet, rugs, sofas and mattresses hold the two allergens that bother people most indoors: dust mite waste and pet dander. Our allergy relief treatment is applied after the cleaning and denatures those proteins where they sit. It is dry in about an hour, non-toxic, and available in every LocalPro market.

More about allergy relief treatment

What the carpet is holding

Carpet catches what the air lets go of

Carpet does a quiet job all day: it catches what drifts down and holds it, which keeps that material out of the air you breathe. The trouble is that a filter has to be emptied. Dust mites, tiny creatures that live on shed skin flakes, settle into the pile, into mattresses and into sofa cushions, and their waste is the allergen. Cats and dogs add dander, which is skin, not hair, and it clings to fiber.

Walk across the room, flop onto the couch or run a vacuum with a tired bag and some of that load lifts back into the air. A thorough cleaning takes most of it out. The allergy relief treatment deals with what the cleaning leaves and with what returns before the next one.

How it works

Clean first, then treat what the clean cannot reach

The cleaning

The carpet, rug or upholstery gets our full low-moisture clean. The solution loosens the soil, dander and mite debris, and absorbent pads carry it out of the fiber. This step alone removes a large share of the allergen load.

The treatment

The allergy relief treatment is applied to the cleaned surface in a light, even application. It is non-toxic, has no heavy fragrance and does not change the feel of the carpet.

The chemistry

Allergens are proteins. The treatment denatures them, altering the shape of the protein so the material that was causing the reaction is no longer that material. Nothing is masked; the allergen itself is changed.

Dry and done

The treatment dries with the carpet, in about an hour. Kids and pets return to the room once it is dry, and there is no residue to feel or smell.

Who asks for it

The households that book the treatment most

A person relaxing on a sofa in a bright, clean room

Allergy and asthma households

When someone in the house reacts to dust or pets, the bedrooms and the main living room are the first rooms we treat, along with the mattresses, since that is where the most hours are spent.

Nurseries

Getting a room ready for a baby often means cleaning the carpet and treating it in the same visit, so the floor the baby will crawl on starts as clean as it can be. Non-toxic matters most here, and it is what we use.

Homes with pets

Dander does not stay on the dog. It works into the carpet, the rug and the cushion the cat prefers. Treating those surfaces after the clean keeps the dander that returns from doing its usual work.

How often

Every time the carpet is cleaned

Because it rides along with a carpet cleaning, the treatment keeps the same schedule. Our rule of thumb for carpet is once a year in most homes and every six months where kids or pets live, and we suggest the allergy relief treatment ride along each time. Mites and dander come back; the treatment is how you stay ahead of them between visits.

It can be applied to carpet, area rugs, sofas and chairs, and mattresses, all in the same appointment. Tell the office when you book, or mention it to the technician on the walk-through; it goes onto the written price before the work begins.

Straight talk

A cleaning treatment, with a cleaning guarantee

We are carpet cleaners, not doctors, and the treatment is sold as what it is: a way to reduce the active allergen in your soft surfaces. It is not a cure and we will never describe it as one. If you have allergies or asthma, your doctor's advice comes first; a cleaner carpet is simply one of the things most of them will tell you to go and get.

What we do guarantee is the work. Love the clean or it's free. Show the technician any area you want redone and it gets a second clean at no cost to you, and work that still is not right after the redo costs nothing. The same technician, the same products and the same promise apply in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, Chattanooga and metro Atlanta.

Allergy treatment questions

Asked by the families who book it

What does the allergy relief treatment actually do?

It goes after the two allergens that live in soft surfaces: the waste of dust mites and the dander shed by cats and dogs. Both are proteins. The treatment denatures them, which means it changes the shape of the protein so it is no longer the same substance that set off the reaction. It is applied after the carpet or fabric has been cleaned, so it works on what is left rather than on a layer of dirt.

Will the treatment stop my allergy symptoms?

We cannot promise that, and we will not. This is a cleaning treatment, not a medical one. What it does is reduce the amount of active allergen sitting in your carpet, rugs and upholstery, and a cleaner home is one part of what an allergist will usually recommend. Talk to your doctor about symptoms; talk to us about the carpet.

Can the treatment be applied to my sofa and mattress too?

Yes, and for dust mite allergens the mattress and the sofa matter at least as much as the carpet, since that is where skin flakes collect and where you spend the most hours. The treatment goes on after the piece is cleaned, dries with it, and is safe once dry. Most families who book it have it applied to the bedrooms, the mattresses and the main sofa together.

How often should the allergy treatment be repeated?

Our rule of thumb is to have it applied every time the carpet is cleaned. For most homes that means once a year, and every six months in a home with kids or pets, because the allergens build back up as mites and dander return. Families who notice the biggest difference tend to pair it with a spring and a fall cleaning.

Does the treatment have a scent or leave anything on the carpet?

No scent you will notice once the carpet is dry, and nothing sticky or powdery underfoot. It is a light application that dries into the fiber along with the carpet in about an hour. The products are non-toxic and eco-friendly, and the floor is safe for kids and pets as soon as it is dry.

Do I need the treatment if nobody in the house has allergies?

Probably not, and we will say so if you ask. The standard clean already lifts a great deal of dust, dander and mite debris out of the carpet, and for a home without sensitivities that is usually enough. The treatment earns its place when someone reacts to dust or pets, when a baby is on the way, or when a bedroom has carpet, upholstery and a mattress all holding allergens together.
